Alice Taylor
Fellow
Digital Media Strategy & Innovation, BBC

Alice Taylor has a decade of experience working in web and new media, from early days developing the first ever www.Channel4.com in 1996 to recent projects at the BBC in digital media Strategy & Innovation. Alice specialises in sociable software and videogaming crossovers with television and radio: from in-game broadcasting and virtual music festivals to developing interactive fiction, 3D dramas and interactive cartoons.

Previous to the BBC, Alice co-founded the software company Stor, which made Stortroopers ( www.stortroopers.com) and other web-based community tools; Stor also produced over 300 live celebrity web events for Channel 4 Television and Capital Radio. Alice used to play semi-professional Quake in her spare time, and was on the first ever UK team playing international matches in 1996; she also organised the 1996 FragFest for Channel 4 Television's GamesMaster show. She founded and co-edits the gamecentric blog Wonderland ( www.wonderlandblog.com) and has written about gaming for sites and magazines, including BBC News, Arial, Kotaku, the Guardian and Paste.

Alice has spoken publicly on games and sociable media, and was recently a judge for the 2005 Mackies, the annual Machinima awards. She also contributes to conferences and events, most recently the 2005 and 2006 Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festivals, and the 2006 AULA in Helsinki.

Alice usually lives in London's East End with her partner and a 10-year-old partially-sighted goldfish called {blink}. You will also often find her in Second Life (Crystaltips Pavlova), World of Warcraft (Magtheridon US and Runetotem UK, both Crystaltips) or more rarely playing multiplayer Quake or whatever's up next on XBox Live.
