Iskra Kirova
CPD Research Fellow, 2009-2011
Analyst, EU Advocacy and Research


As Analyst, EU Advocacy and Research, Iskra provides EU policy research and advice, and conducts and helps develop Crisis Group’s advocacy activities on conflict prevention and resolution in Brussels.

Previously, Iskra worked as a Research Associate at the USC Center on Public Diplomacy at the Annenberg School for Communication in Los Angeles supporting the Center’s research and publications program and daily communications operations. She also has experience working for the European Commission’s Directorate-General for External Relations on European Neighborhood Policy, and as a Research Assistant at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly on non-proliferation issues and conflict resolution in Eastern Europe.

Iskra graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in Public Diplomacy and holds another degree in International Relations from Sofia University in Bulgaria. She speaks Bulgarian and English fluently, has advanced knowledge of French and German, and intermediate knowledge of Russian.

In her research project for the Center entitled Russia's public diplomacy in its sphere of 'privileged interest':The cases of Ukraine and Georgia, Kirova will analyze Russia’s approaches to public diplomacy in regions that have vigorously contested its influence, but that nonetheless include large pro-Russian enclaves.
