Lydia Marcos

Candidate for Master of Public Diplomacy, USC


Lydia received her B.A. in Political Science/International Affairs at the University of California, Riverside in June 2007. Her area of study was Latin America and the Middle East. At UCR, she was involved in many campus organizations including the California Public Interest Group (CALPIRG) where she organized, researched, and raised funds for an awareness event called "Action 4 Africa" on behalf of the Sudanese genocide and conflict in Uganda and Chad.

After traveling extensively in 2003 and 2005 to the Middle East, Sudan, and Europe, she decided to continue with a graduate degree in public diplomacy. She is currently working toward her Masters in Public Diplomacy at USC while working on a project spearheaded by Shawn Powers assessing the effectiveness of the Arabic news media source, Alhurra. She speaks fluent Arabic and her areas of interest include conflict resolution in Sudan and bordering countries such as Chad and Egypt.
