Latest Edition of Bruce Gregory’s Readings List on Public Diplomacy Released
Oct 5, 2011
Professor Bruce Gregory just released his latest list of recommended reading for scholars, practitioners and students of public diplomacy.
The latest additions to the diverse list include readings about religion, the U.S. foreign service, diplomatic history and much more.
Of note is the book A World on Fire: Britain's Crucial Role in the American Civil War by Amanda Foreman. The book details the British stance towards American policies and provides a history of diplomacy on how traditional and public diplomacy were used during the conflict. Foreman's work also "reinforces the correlation between US public diplomacy and armed conflict throughout American history."
Another resource worth exploring is Where the Wild Frontiers Are: Pakistan and the American Imagination by Manan Ahmed. The collection of short essays take a "sharply critical and humorous" look at how Americans perceive "the realities of Pakistan’s people and society" thereby indicating where gaps need to be filled to create a more realistic rendering of Pakistan in the minds of Americans.
