Internships @ CPD

2011-12 CPD Research Internship Program
For a list of all current CPD Student Interns, please click here.

Background
Since its inception in 2003, CPD has relied on the support of dedicated interns. This academic year, to enhance the internship experience of our research interns, CPD is launching the CPD Research Internship in Public Diplomacy program. The Research Internship in Public Diplomacy program offers USC graduate students direct exposure to the academic and practical field of public diplomacy. CPD Research Interns will work on projects developed by the CPD Research Fellows and staff. Research Interns will participate in a variety of public diplomacy scholarship from groundwork research in emerging subsets of public diplomacy, to historical research projects and helping to draft text for publications. Students will have access to scholars and practitioners in the field and opportunities to volunteer to work on CPD’s annual conference. CPD offers a variety of venues for interested and engaged students to get involved. The Program is designed to offer students research and networking opportunities.

Internship Information
All interns participate in outreach and event production and assist CPD with short-term projects and its daily needs. While individual assignments are made in consultation with the intern, the final determination is made based on the needs of the Center. Interns and Master of Public Diplomacy candidates are encouraged to attend Center events, which present good opportunities to network with experts in the field.

  • Students must be enrolled at USC in a graduate degree program. Preference is given to Master of Public Diplomacy candidates.

  • Interns are required to work a minimum of 5 hours per week. Hours are flexible and structured around academic commitments.

  • CPD Research Internships are unpaid volunteer positions.

  • Internship Positions
The USC Center on Public Diplomacy seeks interns for the following categories:*

  • Currently,CPD is not offering any internship positions.

  • *More positions will become available throughout the year. MPD students who are interested in any type of internship at CPD are encouraged to apply to the program without indicating a specific internship and will be contacted if their experience matches with CPD Research Internship opportunities.

    * Internships are competitive and selections are made after an interview (by invitation only) with Naomi Leight, Assistant Director for Research and Publications.

    Students’ Speak
"My CPD internship experience broadened my perspectives on public diplomacy (PD) and media coverage of PD-related issues. As a contributing researcher to PDiN (Public Diplomacy in the News), I researched and posted national and international news clips related to the many themes that fall under the wide umbrella of "public diplomacy." This turned out to be valuable in my schoolwork as well, as I was able to draw upon current events and divergent views of PD in discussions and papers. I also very much enjoyed the opportunity to contribute to the work of CPD, which is highly regarded as a go-to source for thousands of international scholars, practitioners and other PD aficionados alike.”
    – Taleen Ananian, MPD ’11, PDiN Contributing Researcher
