Lawrence Pintak is a veteran of 30 years in journalism and communications consulting on four continents who now writes and lectures on America’s relationship with the Muslim world. He is director of the Adham Center for Electronic Journalism at the American University in Cairo and senior editor of the Journal of Transnational Broadcasting Studies. Mr. Pintak visited the Center on Public Diplomacy to discuss his new book, Reflections in a Bloodshot Lens, which explores the fundamental difference between the perception of Americans and that of Muslims around the world. Pintak explores how the U.S. media portrays Islam, and how Arab and Muslim media represent the U.S. and its actions. He argues that the abyss of "misunderstanding and mis-reporting has distorted media perceptions on both sides of the divide with potentially disastrous results."
