WISEMAN APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF THE USC CENTER ON PUBLIC DIPLOMACY

LOS ANGELES – May 8, 2008 – On behalf of USC College Dean Howard Gillman and Annenberg School Dean Ernest J. Wilson III, the USC Center on Public Diplomacy is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Geoffrey Wiseman to the position of Director.
After a national search, USC College Dean Howard Gillman and Annenberg School Dean Ernest J. Wilson III have appointed Geoffrey Wiseman to serve as director of the USC Center on Public Diplomacy at the Annenberg School. In addition to his distinguished career as an Australian diplomat and recently on the staff of the United Nations Secretary-General, Dr. Wiseman is Professor of the Practice of International Relations in USC College's School of International Relations. From 1992–95, he was the Ford Foundation's program officer for international peace and security. He received his doctorate in International Relations from Oxford University. His publications include Concepts of Non-Provocative Defence: Ideas and Practices in International Security, and a co-edited book (with Paul Sharp), The Diplomatic Corps as an Institution of International Society. Since January 2008, Dr. Wiseman has served as acting director of the Center, which is a joint program of USC Annenberg and USC College's School of International Relations.
