Company Banned in Effort to Protect Foreign Students From Exploitation

For Korean Wave 3.0, Go Retro

Korean policymakers are discussing the “Korean Wave 3.0.” The Korean Wave, or hallyu in Korean, means the export of Korean entertainment and other culture. The “Version 1.0” of the wave was the success of TV dramas and movies starting about 10 years ago. China puts space-age seal on African role

It would be hard to conjure up a grander gesture to mark the state of relations between China and Africa than the new $200m Chinese-built headquarters of the African Union. However, it was with a mixture of bemusement and awe that delegates explored their shiny new gift, completed like so many Chinese projects on the continent in less than three years.  Read more...

U.S. international broadcasting needs a new plan

One of the BBG’s most foolish decisions was to end all VOA radio and TV programs in Arabic and Russian. Besides, the BBG needs to focus on multi-platform, multi-media program delivery that includes new media but does not eliminate VOA broadcasting, where BBG has the greatest competitive advantage.   Read more...

US sports leaders to mentor Afghan coaches

A group of senior U.S. coaches and sports administrators will visit Afghanistan in February to conduct training and mentoring for Afghan sports officials as part of a sports diplomacy effort co-sponsored by the International Security Assistance Force and the U.S. Embassy.   Read more...
