Brand Ghana CEO to speak at Branding Africa Masterclass

Mathias Akotia, announced as the CEO of the newly formed Brand Ghana office, will provide the opening keynote presentation at the Nation Branding Africa Masterclass event in Ghana next week. The Brand Ghana office was launched on 16 September 2009 by the President of Ghana, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, to build a “compelling image for Ghana”.

Obama Triangulates His Country

In his address to the United Nations, Pres. Barack Obama did his best impression of a high-school sophomore participating in his first Model U.N. meeting, retailing pious clichés he learned from his ponytailed social-studies teacher. Even Woodrow Wilson might have blanched at the mushy-headed exhortations to world peace and collective action better suited to a college dorm-room bull session or a holiday-season Coca-Cola commercial.

Chinese Embassy Plans Cultural Exchange

The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone...disclosed that they would be engaging in cultural exchange programmes with Sierra Leone in the future. Ambassador Qiu said the time is ripe for China to use culture in improving ties with Sierra Leone as China has been engaging in other areas to help develop the country. He said he would make sure that Acrobats, Martial Arts and Peking Opera come to Sierra Leone so they can exhibit their rich culture to Sierra Leoneans.

We Need to Completely Rethink Our Foreign Policy

The U.S. remains a great and powerful nation, but its unipolar moment has passed. It no longer leads the world, because there is no single "top dog" in the old sense. Pax Americana is no more; and Western hegemony is in severe decline. This is why it is surely time for a clean break, and a new strategic direction – or, at the very least, to answer some immediate and important questions for British foreign policy.

Exchange Opened Between GU, Mexico’s Top Execs

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox joined Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia on Sept. 24 to sign a cooperative agreement between the university and Mexican nonprofit Centro Fox. Centro Fox works to develop leaders across a variety of sectors in Mexico. Under the agreement between the organization and Georgetown, the two will partner to develop and deliver educational initiatives for top executives from multinational corporations.

Jesse Waters teaches in Brazil, shares his experience

This summer, Professor Jesse Waters of the English department spent a month in Salvador, Brazil participating in an exchange program through the Partners of Americas Organization. He acted as a Teacher-in-Residence, presenting different in-services and lectures at several institutions, including, Associação Cultural Brasil-Estados Unidos (ACBEU) and Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA).
