America's public diplomacy will not improve if her ability to communicate with the local officials and population is absent. Such shortcomings are unacceptable and will only hinder America's engagement in the areas of most strategic importance.

Will Turkey’s EU membership dream come true?

Any country that embraces this way of life becomes European by virtue of this choice and is therefore eligible for EU membership. On this criterion, Turkey has a strong claim. The prospect of EU membership has reinforced the country’s secular democracy and led directly to fundamental reforms, notably the abolition of the death penalty. “The relationship with the EU has been the driving force of change in Turkish politics, society and economics,” says Ilter Turan, professor of political science at Bilgi University in Istanbul.

Kenyans learn to milk their resources the Italian way

The Terzoi from Western Kenya have traditionally made an unusual yogurt, but they've never turned their milk into cheese. They presented their produce in Italy this year and swapped knowledge with Italian farmers. "It has been a phenomenal learning experience, for both the Kenyans and the farmers in Italy." said Peter Namianya, a Kenyan graduate from the University of Gastronomy in Piedmont, who coordinated the trip.

Korea Should Change Its Name

For most people outside the country, the first thing that comes to mind when you say "South Korea" is "North Korea." The connection is, in fact, so strong that people frequently confuse the two countries. But, there is a more strategic way to distance ourselves from North Korea that has not been raised publicly. That is for South Korea to lose the word "Korea" and get foreigners to call it something else. Let the northerners have Korea. Why not change our English name to Hanguk?

Russia’s president pledges to help U.S. nudge Iran on nuclear issue

Reporting from The United Nations - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev offered closer cooperation with the United States in curbing Iran's nuclear ambitions Wednesday, promising President Obama that Moscow would help the Islamic Republic make "a right decision" and hinting that sanctions might be necessary to achieve it.
