Widener, China joining to create cultural center

Widener University is collaborating with the Beijing University of Technology to create a Chinese language and cultural center, the first of its kind in the Philadelphia region. The center, called a Confucius Institute, will be the state's second and is expected to open in the spring.

Hearing-impaired artist to exhibit works in Tokyo

Spotting the boy's talent, his art teacher at St Louis Institute for the Deaf and Blind encouraged him to study art. Today, at 52, Ramalingam has held innumerable exhibitions and is the only Indian artist who will be showing his work at the 2009 ParaArt Tokyo Exhibition at Seibu Gallery, Tokyo.

Germany - Young culture ambassadors depart

Conveying a modern image of Germany abroad. That is the aim of the 193 young people who are about to depart on their mission as the first “kulturweit” (Bridging Cultures) volunteers. Gernot Erler, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, bid farewell to the “kulturweit” ambassadors and underlined just how important personal contact is for mutual understanding.

LSR Campaigns for Aung San Suu Kyi

Ravi Nair, human rights activist and Sagarika Ghose, TV anchor appealed for introspection and offered several ideas for future initiatives, including public diplomacy, to keep up the momentum. He went on to analyse “how to deal with generals who had no eyesight, insight or foresight.” He appealed for action at legislative, parliamentary and media levels.
