Americans for Artsakh offers negotiations and PR training in Stepanakert

Americans for Artsakh recently completed its third in a series of training projects for government officials in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. The project – taught this August by Western Carolina University Professor Dr. Paul Dezendorf and AFA executive director Sarah Ludwig - focused on two areas of crucial importance to the nascent state: negotiations and government public relations.

Brubeck honored by Kennedy Center

It's not surprising at all, though, that Dave Brubeck was named Wednesday as one of five artists who will be honored in 2009 by the Kennedy Center in Washington. Brubeck, inducted into the California Hall of Fame and given the U.S. State Department's Benjamin Franklin Award for Public Diplomacy during the past 18 months, continues to sustain his legacy at Pacific through the Brubeck Institute, founded in 2000.

The Philadelphia Orchestra to perform at the World Expo

The Philadelphia Orchestra, as a part of its visit to Asia, has signed a contract with China to appear at the World Exposition in Shanghai under the futurist heading “Celebration 2030”. On March 7 of the coming year Charles Dutoit will lead the Orchestra at the Expo Performance Center, which will be completed for the massive showcase. The structure, partly funded by 20 million US dollars, will have the capacity to fill 18,000 seats.

Europe and the Obama Bounce

President Obama’s popularity is almost stratospheric. He has essentially reversed the loss to America’s image that accrued during the Bush years. Mr. Obama made his greatest gains in precisely those countries where Mr. Bush had lost the most ground — Germany, France, the Netherlands and Italy. The most Obama-crazed country was Germany, where his popularity is some 80 percentage points higher than the level of support Mr. Bush enjoyed in 2008.
