For the upcoming 2011 German Year in India, there are big plans by the German representation in India to interweave both German and Indian art at the event.

Taking a step forward, to mark 50 years of Goethe Institute in India and to celebrate strong cultural ties between India and Germany, Max Mueller Bhavan has allocated a budget of Rs60 lakh for cultural projects that strengthen ties between the two countries.

The entire amount will be dedicated to the fraternity of arts including theatre, music, dance, literature, fine arts and cinema. The grant was put forward during an event that was held on the occasion of their 50th anniversary at New Delhi. President of Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, professor Klaus-Dieter Lehmann, says, “Faith and harmony between the two nations have promoted our inter-cultural relations.”

Marla Stukenberg, director of the Mumbai Goethe Institute, affirms that the German organisation has added strength to the already existing harmonious relationships between the two countries. She says, “The entire project of the Rs60 lakh grant came from our decision to pay back to the country that has supported the institution for five decades.”

According to Stukenberg, this grant is applicable to any individual or artist community that proposes a project that interweaves German culture with their original concept. The institution has also formed a panel of jury members that will examine each proposal closely.

Stukenberg informs, “From Mumbai, we have nominated Ranjit Hoskote to be a part of the jury, based on his longterm association with us. We wanted to be sure that each member is free of personal bias.”
