The new course of study, to be directed by Robert Entman, J.B. and Maurice C. The application deadline for the new program is May 15, 2008.
"This forward-looking program is an example of GW at its best: two schools combining their expertise in an area of increasing importance in the 21st century," said Michael E. Brown, dean of the Elliott School of International Affairs. "GW brings unparalleled resources to this endeavor including a superb faculty of scholars and practitioners who are recognized experts in global communication and public diplomacy, a rich curriculum of courses, and a unique location in Washington, D.C."
Peg Barratt, dean of GW's Columbian College of Arts and Sciences and professor of psychology, echoed Brown's enthusiasm and said, "By bringing together the internationally recognized faculty of both schools and exercising GW's connections throughout Washington, we can offer a unique program focused on the process of communication, the subject matter professionals must communicate, and the broader global environment in which they will need to operate."
The George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs is one of the world's leading schools of international affairs. Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., its mission is to educate the next generation of international leaders, conduct research that advances understanding of important global issues, and engage the policy community in the United States and around the world.
GW's Columbian College of Arts and Sciences offers a broad range of academic programs that focus on research and teaching through a student-faculty partnership in discovery and learning. Distinctive among them is the School of Media and Public Affairs, which combines elements of strategic communication, journalism, and political communication with contemporary issues in domestic and international politics to produce a forum "where media, public affairs, and politics intersect."
