The visit of President Valdas Adamkus to Latin America is accompanied by a rich Lithuanian cultural program. Minister of Culture Jonas Jucas is also visiting Latin America with the Lithuanian delegation with an aim to renew and strengthen the cultural cooperation with Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Chile, as well as to encourage the activity of the Lithuanian communities in these countries and develop interrelationships.

"The main goals are to sign the cultural cooperation agreements with Argentina and Brazil. These agreements will encourage those Lithuanians, who are far away from their homeland, to maintain closer relationships with Lithuania and provide opportunities for us to know better the distant countries where our nationals reside. Recently there are few single initiatives being implemented, however, it is possible to achieve notably better results by granting the national status for the cooperation," minister Jucas said.

During the meetings in Argentina and Uruguay, the Lithuanian community centres will be given presents, such as Lithuanian movie and cartoon collections, which will give a chance to the children of the Lithuanian emigrants to get more acquainted with Lithuania.
