Malta dedicates €251,862 to foreign aid projects

The Foreign Affairs Ministry will this year spend €251,862.16 on development projects to impoverished countries.

The money will be distributed across 12 different projects from local non-governmental development organisations (NGDOs) across Asia, Africa and South America as part of the government’s Official Development Assistance policy.

In a speech to NGDOs, foreign affairs minister George Vella hailed their efforts in providing assistance to different communities around the world and in striving to eradicate poverty.

He noted that as Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Malta is working towards reaching an agreement on the new European Consensus on Development, which will bring the EU’s policy in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This aims to eradicate poverty in all its forms and dimensions, and outlines 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which focus on building resilient communities.
