In the first four months in 2008, large flat-panel television sales have surged more than 50 percent over the same period last year, with people's enthusiasm for the European football matches and the upcoming Beijing Olympics. China has pledged to provide digital TV broadcasting for the Beijing Games, prompting citizens to buy high definition televisions to better view live broadcasting.

Sales of flat-panel televisions with 42 inches or larger monitors will account for 40 percent of the total TV sales in the country, or five million units in 2008. China is the world's biggest TV maker, consumer as well as exporter.
