A new project aims to promote co-operation between biodiversity researchers across the UK and six Latin American countries.

Funded by the British Council’s Newton Fund and in partnership with the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), Researcher Links aims to enhance scientific collaboration by promoting an international exchange of researchers between universities in UK, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Argentina and Brazil.

The transfer of knowledge and expertise is expected to improve the quality of research and development in the field and workshops will be held to allow researchers to make and strengthen international connections.

Once funded, grants will be available for early-career researchers in the UK and partner countries.

Trade Envoy Mark Prisk said: “The Newton Fund enables the UK and Brazil to work together to tackle global challenges such as infectious diseases, climate change and agriculture. This agreement represents a unique opportunity to elevate researchers’ co-operation.”

The application window is now open on British Council and FAPESP websites. The deadline is the 13th of October 2017.
