National Press Club member Mahtab Farid, who recently returned from 16 months in Afghanistan training more than 100 journalists, will explain how journalism is evolving in the country.

In a presentation sponsored by the International Correspondents Committee, Farid will discuss how journalism is playing a key role in the country’s reconstruction efforts and will share some of her personal experiences working with the Afghan media, especially the training of women reporters, from her base in Bagram province.

Farid served as a regional public diplomacy officer in eastern Afghanistan for the State Department and received a meritorious award from then-U.S. Ambassador Karl Eikenberry for excellence in her work in building Afghan media capacity. She also was recognized by provincial governors for training the local media.

She began a new assignment last week as the Capitol Hill and White House correspondent for the Voice of America Persian News Network.
