CPD Launches New Internship Program in DC

The U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy (ACPD) and the USC Center on Public Diplomacy (CPD) are partnering to create a unique fellowship opportunity for one top public diplomacy student from USC this summer. This represents the first posting in CPD's newly established Summer Associates Program.

The non-resident fellowship will involve working closely with the Commission on research projects, data analysis and creating reference materials for PD practitioners at post. Additional meetings may be conducted at the State Department and on Capitol Hill.

"CPD is committed to developing the next generation of public diplomacy professionals who reflect our nation’s rich diversity and the international community at large," said Jay Wang, CPD's Director. "Each year we make a significant investment in our students to enrich their intellectual life and the vital learning beyond the classroom. We are thrilled to be partnering with ACPD to provide this valuable opportunity."

Madison Jones (MPD Class of 2018) was selected to be the first CPD Fellow at the U.S. Advisory Commission. She is a rising second-year student with a public relations background and a particular interest in political communication and global public opinion. As a 2016-17 CPD Student Fellow, she helped produce editorial content for the CPD website and assisted with two major research projects.

"I am delighted to work so closely again with CPD and to bring on a graduate student from USC's pioneering Master of Public Diplomacy Program to contribute to the Commission's work," said Shawn Powers, Executive Director of the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy. "I have no doubt that it will be a mutually rewarding experience."
