Monocle Releases 2017/2018 Soft Power Survey

Canada, Germany and France top the list in Monocle's 2017/2018 Soft Power Survey. This survey features 25 countries and looks at how the events of 2017, such as Ireland's election of Leo Varadkar, the country's first openly gay prime minister, have impacted each country's international image.

Coupled with the ranking is a small description of the traits impacting the country's soft power as well as advice for how each country can continue to improve its position. For instance, Monocle's writers suggest that the Netherlands can improve its position in the future by sharing their expertise, because the Dutch "have much to teach the world about water management as sea levels rise."
