In this video, Aspen Institute Arts Program Director Damian Woetzel leads a discussion about using art to project American soft power internationally, posing the questions “How can artists today productively engage with diplomacy? Are we doing our best as a nation to harness the utility of art as a foreign policy tool?” The conversation features American artist Joel Shapiro, who has created public sculptures at US government outposts in Guangzhou, China and Ottawa, Canada, among others.
