China and the US have conducted joint humanitarian and disaster relief exercises at the US Bellows barracks in Hawaii. On Sunday, troops from the two countries practised providing emergency aid to a third country hit by a devastating typhoon.

The drill involved 15 military personnel from China's People's Liberation Army, and a team of 20 troops from the US Army. It consisted of three phases: command and control, rescue operations, and logistic services. The troops discussed and reviewed the exercises at all levels after the operation. In the afternoon, members from both sides participated in cultural exchange activities.

The joint humanitarian drills provide an opportunity for cooperative field exercises and a forum for military to military relations. China and the US held their first joint rescue exercises in 2013.
