Geologists converge in Cuba for Earth Sciences Convention

Havana (Prensa Latina) – The 7th International Earth Science Convention will begin here tomorrow with geologists, geophysicists and miners from Latin America, North America, Europe and Africa.

Organized by the Cuban Geological Society, the congresses of Geology, Mining, Geophysics, Informatics and Geosciences as well as the Oil and Gas Congress will be held in parallel. The programme highlights as part of the Congress of Geosciences, the 7th Symposium Seismology and other Geohazards, as well as the 3rd Workshop Exploration, Exploitation and Processing of Gold.

To these are added the 4th Workshop groundwater geo-environmental problems and development, another on Geodiversity, Geoparks and Geotourism as an alternative to achieve sustainable development, as well as the Workshop History of Geologic Activity in Cuba.

The exploitation prospects of solid minerals are one of the most significant issues of the Mining Congress.

An exhibition with products, services and new technologies linked to these scientific specialties and the presentation of several books are among the proposals.

Geosciences 2017, as it is also called, will be attended by Latin American researchers from Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Haiti. From the north of the continent counterparts from the United States and Canada will arrive.

Europe will be present with specialists from Spain, France, Poland, Italy and Turkey. The African continent will be represented by experts from Angola.

Under the slogan ‘Geosciences in the service of society and development,’ the 7th International Earth Science Convention is also organized by the Ministries of Science, Technology and Environment, Energy and Mines, the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, and the National Museum of Natural History.

The event, which will take place until April 7, will be held at the Conference Center of this capital.
