YOUNG linguists at Holyrood Community School in Chard welcomed a group of German exchange students to the town last week.

A party of 26 students from Chard’s twin town of Helmstedt arrived on Thursday and have been staying with families from the school.

The visitors have been going to lessons with their partners all week, with five A-level students taking on work experience at schools and nurseries around the area.

They will be leaving the town on Wednesday, with their Holyrood counterparts due to visit them in March.

Holyrood teacher Claire Berry, who is head of the exchange programme, said the visit was a positive experience for the children.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for them,” she said.

“They all seem to be getting on really well and lots of friendships are being made.”
