Africa: U.S. Military Edging Out Diplomacy - Report

A combination of leadership shortcomings and inadequate funding is undermining US diplomacy in Africa, an internal State Department review has found. "Embassy platforms are collapsing under the weight of new programmes and staffing without corresponding resources to provide the services required by new tenants and requirements," warns the report issued last week by the department's inspector general.

What Egyptians want from Washington

Egypt is set to use its president's visit to Washington to trumpet its position as a key US ally and major regional player. Pakistan’s Mango Diplomacy

It’s August, the middle of the summer “silly season” when there’s a dearth of news with most politicians and newsmakers away on holiday, so journalists in London welcomed a rare treat. They were invited by Pakistan’s High Commission to a mango festival as part of a series of events to mark the country’s 62nd Independence Day. Assembled journalists at Asia House in London were offered a tantalising selection of mango creations to taste: chicken and mango salad, spicy mango soup, light-as-a-feather mango cake, mango mousse and platefuls of succulent cubes of fresh mango.

Pink Diplomacy. Noun. The practice of using a state's international heft to fight for equal rights for LGBT people around the globe. Example: The UK's Foreign Ministry office is is championing a controversial drive to fund equal-rights activists in homophobic regimes, known as 'pink diplomacy.' And if we do say so ourselves, it's a pretty cool new term to make its way into the geopolitical dictionary.
