AMU signs MoU with Dutch varsity for academic exchange

Aligarh Muslim University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the INHolland University of Amsterdam for the exchange of students and academic staff between the two Universities along with joint activities in the area of course development, student internships and higher research. The MoU was signed when a high power delegation of INHolland University visited AMU to explore the prospects of joint activities in the field of educational and cultural research and training.

The art of diplomacy, 20 years later

In retrospect, it is easy to invest events like the reunification of Germany with historical inevitability. By the time the Berlin Wall came down, the forces of change in Central and Eastern Europe had become irresistible. Hungary and Poland were already moving rapidly to dismantle their police states. Massive peaceful demonstrations were sweeping East Germany. The Soviet Empire set up in the wake of World War II was crumbling for all to see. The division of Germany into two states, one free and one not, was no longer sustainable.

There is an Alice in Wonderland quality to America’s dealings with Pakistan. Late last month, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Pakistan to undertake a highly visible campaign of public diplomacy to placate Pakistanis about their worst fears regarding the intentions of the US foreign-policy and security establishments.

20th Anniversary of The Fall of the Berlin Wall in Germany, 2009

On November 9, 2009, Berlin will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall with a "Festival of Freedom", during which over 1,000 foam domino tiles over 8 feet tall will be stacked along the former route of the wall in the city center and toppled. A Berlin Twitter Wall was set up to allow Twitter users post messages commemorating the 20th anniversary. Masses of Chinese users have used it to protest the Great Firewall of China. Berlin Twitter Wall was quickly blocked by the Chinese authorities.

Study Group plans big for Nigeria, Ghana

Study Group, United Kingdom’s largest independent supplier of international students to universities in Britain, has announced the launch of a programme, which will see four of its Bellerbys Further Education Colleges, twinned with institutions in Nigeria and Ghana. The new initiative will enable an exchange agreement in which students and teachers will be given the opportunity to visit and work at their international partner colleges.

Voices of U.S. Diplomacy and The Berlin Wall Web Exhibition

The U.S. Diplomacy Center, Bureau of Public Affairs, is launching the Web exhibition "Voices of U.S. Diplomacy and the Berlin Wall" on its website. This exhibit draws upon different and less well covered aspects of diplomacy and shares experiences of U.S. diplomats serving in Germany from the time of the Berlin Wall's construction to its demolition.

Cabinet has approved the new international marketing logo for South Africa

The new logo replaces the logos that were primarily used by the International Marketing Council (IMC) and SA Tourism to market South Africa abroad. "This decision marks the beginning of a new era in nation branding as South African entities will now go out to the world under a single, colourful, dynamic logo and positioning.
