Russian and EU power of attraction

Here is an interesting opinion poll where post-Soviet publics are asked whether they prefer integration into the EU, union of Russia/Belarus/Ukraine/Kazakhstan or independence without integration with any such entities. The results broadly confirm some of the findings from our recent ECFR report on Russian and European neighbourhood policies which argues that EU soft power in the region is not uncotested.

Why No Company should give the Ministry of Information a kobo

Many Nigerians regard the “National Rebranding” project as a sick joke. But this has not stopped the Minister of Information from repeatedly telling it. Since the government has devoted only some 120 million naira to the project, I have regarded the whole thing as an embarrassing amusement. That was until I overheard the Minister saying on Silverbird TV that Nigerian companies will sponsor projects under the “Good People, Great Nation” campaign.

Christians and Muslims: Together In Overcoming Poverty

The Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue today published its annual Message to Muslims for the end of the month of Ramadan. The Message is signed by Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran and Archbishop Pier Luigi Celata, respectively president and secretary of the council, and has as its theme this year (1430 AH / 2009 AD): “Christians and Muslims: Together in overcoming poverty”.

It has been assumed by the Indonesian public an improper claim, as with traditional handicrafts such as batik and wayang.

Cross cultural exchange between Sweden and Kosovo

A joint exhibition of Zake Prelvukaj, Ismet Jonuzi, and Rudina Xhaferi is the fruit of cooperation and cultural exchange among Swedish and Kosovar artists. In the context of deepening cultural co-operation between Swedish and Kosovar artists, an exhibition of academic painters has opened in Växjö, Sweden introducing three ambitious and talented artists; Zake Prelvukaj, Ismet Jonuzi, and Rudina Xhaferi.

Sister Cities Program Unites Big Cities Around the World

The first sister city program came into existence back in 1956 when President Eisenhower established the initiative as part of the National League of Cities. Over the years, it evolved into its own separate organization known today as Sister Cities International (SCI). SCI works as a non-profit citizen diplomacy network dedicated to seeking stronger economic and cultural ties between U.S. and international communities.

America’s largest Buddha statue in New Jersey

New Jersey Governor John Cozine will open the largest Samadhi Buddha Statue in USA which is 30 feet tall at New Jersey Buddhist Vihara on September 26. Chief Incumbent of the Viharaya Ven. Hunhampola Siriratana Nayake Thera initiated the project. The statue is similar to the one in the Mahamevuna Uyana in Anuradhapura. This received the generous support of Americans and Sri Lankans in the United States.

Israeli Minister reaches out to Swedish Jewish community in wake of Aftonbladet scandal

As part of a project to foster close attachment between Israel and the European Jewish community, Israeli Minister of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Yuli Edelstein will address members of the Swedish Jewish community in a live satellite broadcast on Tuesday.
