KEEP READINGOne World, One Anthem: Rio 2016
A new ad campaign from Samsung celebrates the unifying spirit of the Olympics by weaving together more than a dozen national anthems into one shared song for humanity. Opening with an Australian girl singing a line from Botswana’s national anthem, the ad intercuts snippets of lyrics sung by fans and athletes from all corners of the globe including Brazil, Canada, France, Malaysia and the UK. The ad also features six global athletes who defied physical, social and political barriers to achieve their goals and promote meaningful change; they are: American runner Alysia Montaño, Australian boxer Shelley Watts, Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina, British diver Tom Daley, French Para-Olympian Arnaud Assoumani, and South Sudanese runner Margret Rumat Rumat Hassan. This ad is a powerful demonstration of sports diplomacy, people-to-people engagement and the interconnectedness of 21st century society.
The full text of the global anthem reads:
Through our unity and harmony, we'll remain at peace as one.
For we are young and free, with glowing hearts we see thee rise.
The day of glory has arrived, oh say can you see, a vivid ray of love and hope descends to Earth.
The people living united and progressive, join together all of our hearts as one.
Happy and glorious, listen to us gently with the infinite love.
Unity and justice and freedom, stand unchanged by wind and frost.
Offer peace to friends, and united we shall stand.
