Barefoot in Baghdad:  An Evening with Manal Omar

The USC Center on Public Diplomacy, USC Office of Religious Life and the Claremont School of Theology are pleased to welcome Manal Omar for a talk and book signing. Barefoot in Baghdad: A Story of Identity - My Own and What it Means to Be a Woman in Chaos is an intimate look at the struggle for freedom and identity in Iraq.

Manal Omar has worked with Women for Women International (a non-profit organization) as Regional Coordinator for Afghanistan, Iraq, and Sudan. Formerly a journalist in Iraq, she also worked for UNESCO, Oxfam and currently is the Director of Iraq Programs at the United States Institute of Peace (WDC).

During this talk, she will speak about the transformation of Iraq from a liberated country into an occupied one, and will share her work helping many Iraqi women survive the daily life of war and occupation.
This event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.
