Join a virtual conversation with Joseph S. Nye Jr., political scientist, diplomat, distinguished professor, and former dean of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Nye will discuss his memoir, A Life in the American Century (Polity, 2024), which offers a compelling perspective on the evolution of American power from the post-World War II era to today, along with an insightful vision for the future.

Since the end of World War II, we have been living in what is often dubbed “the American Century,” a period during which the United States has enjoyed unrivaled power on the global stage. Born on the cusp of this new era, Joseph Nye has spent a lifetime illuminating our understanding of the changing contours of American power and world affairs.

Nye is a university distinguished service professor emeritus and former dean of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He also served as assistant secretary of defense for International Security Affairs, Chair of the National Intelligence Council, and Deputy Undersecretary of State. He is a world-renowned authority on American power in the modern era whose work has influenced generations of scholars and practitioners.

This program is presented by the Master of Public Diplomacy Program and the Center on Public Diplomacy as part of the “Public Diplomacy Next” series, which explores the future of international engagement through interdisciplinary studies.
