Radicalization, Law Enforcement, and Civil Rights
The USC Center on Public Diplomacy, USC Office of Religious Life, USC Muslim Student Union, USC Asian Pacific American Student Services, and the National Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events are pleased to co-sponsor a moderated panel discussion that will focus on the March 10th hearing convened by U.S. Representative Peter King (R-NY). At the March 10th hearing, Representative King attempted to examine "the extent of radicalization in the American Muslim community and that community’s response" and the focus was to explore alleged trends of the radicalization of Muslims in the U.S.
In the spirit of creating dialogue, a coalition of students at the University of Southern California have worked with the Office of Religious Life and Asian Pacific American Student Services in organizing a panel discussion that will focus on topics raised at this hearing. Los Angeles County Sheriff, Lee Baca, who was the only law enforcement official who testified in this original hearing, will be with us on the panel.
Panelists include:
-Sheriff Lee Baca, Sheriff of Los Angeles County
-Errol Southers, Associate Director for Research Transition at the National Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events (CREATE)
-Dr. Laurie Brand, Director and Professor of International Relations at USC
-Dr. Stephen O’ Leary, Professor at the USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism
