Toward Ethical Soft Power & Public Diplomacy with Naren Chitty
Countries, large and small, increasingly recognize the centrality of image and reputation in their foreign relations. Dr. Naren Chitty visited the USC Center on Public Diplomacy to discuss the challenges facing contemporary public diplomacy practices and the ethical use of soft power in building relations between nations and communities.
About Naren Chitty
Professor Naren Chitty is the director of the Soft Power Advocacy & Research Centre (SPARC) at Macquarie University, which is Australia’s first research center dedicated to public diplomacy. Chitty is also the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of International Communication. Before joining Macquarie, he held posts as a public diplomat in Washington, D.C., and a policy planner for Australian national television, among others. Chitty holds a Ph.D in International Relations and an MA in International Communication from the School of International Service at American University. He was awarded the Order of Australia in 2009 for his work in international communication education.
