USC Welcomed Visitors from the Edward R. Murrow Journalism Program

USC Center on Public Diplomacy and the International Visitor's Council welcomed visiting international journalists from the Edward R. Murrow Journalism Program.

The Edward R. Murrow Journalism Program invites 100 international media professionals to engage with journalists and participate in leading journalism schools here in the United States. Named after the renowned journalist and former director of the United States Information Agency, Edward R. Murrow, this program emphasizes many of the democratic principles that guided Mr. Murrow's practice of his craft: integrity and ethics and courage and social responsibility. The new journalism program is an innovative public-private partnership, led by the State Department's International Visitor Leadership Program and supported by The USC Annenberg School, The Aspen Institute, and five other journalism schools throughout the country. The reporters and editors will come under the auspices of the State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, which administers the Fulbright Program as well as other international exchange programs.

The International Visitors Council of Los Angeles (IVCLA) is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. IVCLA’s mission is to increase international understanding and cooperation. They work closely with the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program which brings emerging international leaders to the U.S. to share information about important global issues and to learn first-hand about the people and culture of the United States. By creating an opportunity for international emerging leaders to come to Los Angeles, a dialogue can begin that would not otherwise be possible.

These potential international leaders are welcomed to the Los Angeles area by IVCLA’s Citizen Diplomats (our individual members and professional resources) who invite the visitors into their homes and offices. Through our programs visitors gain a better understanding about the individuals, organizations and businesses of Greater Los Angeles and our local participants learn more about the rest of the world. Lasting professional connections and friendships are often created.
