To Fix Islam, Start From the Inside
After all, most Muslims live outside the Middle East, and Washington must learn to acknowledge their worth. Doing so demands a foreign-policy rethink. Instead of being driven strictly by counterterrorism, the United States' approach to Muslims should be complemented by a universal human-rights thrust—a cooperative strategy that recognizes ordinary Muslims, especially women, to be immediate targets of jihadism, as well as indispensable partners in the fight against it.
Fixing Uncle Sam’s Image Problem
Since 2000, the United States' standing has deteriorated in all parts of the world, and anti-Americanism has grown intense. The 2008 Pew Global Attitudes survey reveals that in the past eight years, favorable views of the United States fell from 78 percent to 30 percent in Germany, 50 percent to 22 percent in Argentina and 75 percent to 37 percent in Indonesia. Yet as bad as this looks, America's image problem can still be healed—if the next administration correctly diagnoses the problem.

Back to English Comp: Notes for a Public Diplomacy Primer
We need an under secretary who understands that PD is not advertising or public relations or propaganda or all the nice things that private citizens can do in their various capacities. The Value of Cultural Diplomacy
An exhibition from Victoria and Albert Museum for Damascus' stint as Arab Capital of Culture has a very significant part to play in the delicate business of opening hearts and minds and unclogging channels of diplomacy, civility and dialogue currently blocked by hard line American rhetoric.
Diplomatic Community Takes the Stage for Charity
Korean and foreign diplomats came together to present a musical performance at the Charity Concert 2008..."We aim to share our musical experiences with each other and contribute to cultural diplomacy while cooperating with charity organizations to affect positive change in our society,” said Oh Joon, chief of the Office of Multilateral Global and Legal Affairs...All the profits will go to help natural disaster-prone South Asian countries, including India, Nepal and Bangladesh.
Abba Edan’s message rings clear again
Once again, Israel has shown that it will "never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity" to capture the high ground in the news wars that are the main battleground in the Middle East these days. Even when it has the facts on its side. Israel failed to launch a first strike with its weapons of public diplomacy.
Sizing up U.S. diplomacy
The American Academy of Diplomacy estimates that the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development will need to increase their ranks by 4,700 employees between 2010 and 2014 in order to successfully carry out U.S. diplomatic initiatives. For instance, the public diplomacy staff, which seeks to influence foreign publics by promoting U.S. policies, culture, society and values, is currently 24 per cent smaller than in 1986.
