VOA Calendar Features International Broadcasters

The Voice of Americas (VOA) 2009 calendar features individual stories and pictures of international broadcasters who reach millions of people around the world with news and information. "Many of VOA's broadcasters have fascinating personal stories, and we are proud to be able to tell them in our new calendar," said VOA Director Danforth Austin. The calendar features broadcasters who are natives of Burma, Haiti, Afghanistan, Rwanda, Tunisia, Indonesia, Iran, Tibet, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Pakistan.

Facebook Diplomacy: Peace May be a Click Away

That was the message Thursday from a New York conference on the potential power of Internet social networking tools like Facebook to counter terrorism and repressive governments. "New technology gives the United States and other free nations a significant advantage over terrorists," US Undersecretary of State James Glassman told Web entrepreneurs and human rights activists at New York's Columbia University Law School.

So how should the Obama administration institute Public Diplomacy 2.0? First, create a central agency like FDR's Office of War Information (later the US Information Agency) to oversee the public diplomacy efforts of all government departments, including State, Defense, CIA, AID and others. Secondly, enlist the private sector as a partner in public diplomacy. Get the best talent from media, entertainment and technology. The government needs help. It doesn't have the resources, experience or expertise to go it alone.

Obama Administration’s Policies on the Travel Industry

Key meetings & travel industry professionals have come out in full support of the new administrations moves thus far. The main issues being considered include the value of the U.S. dollar, open sky agreements, modernizing air traffic control, airline bailouts & merger approvals, TSA overhaul, passenger rights, funding for rail transportation and infrastructure, visa waivers, and promotion of the U.S. as an international tourism destination.
