UK Foreign Secretary: in some 10 years Turkey should be inside EU acting as bridge to Muslim world
“The desire to join or to be associated with the biggest single market in the world is strong, and gives us huge influence...This is not a threat to NATO." As the US Ambassador to NATO said: “the US needs, the UK needs, NATO needs, the democratic world needs a stronger, more capable European defense capacity. An ESDP with only soft power is not enough”.

With a month remaining before the Beijing Olympics, the International Olympic Committee on Tuesday praised the city’s preparations but also cited two "open issues" that remain: whether the city can deliver good air quality and fulfill promises to allow television networks to broadcast from non-Olympic sites.
Azerbaijani Audience Gets A Taste Of Iranian ‘Soft Power’
The teahouses of Astara, as usual, are filled with the chatter of men discussing their everyday problems...Their spirited conversations come to an abrupt halt with the introductory jingle of a popular news program. But while this Azerbaijani-language programming, which has attracted so many locals' attention, offers much fodder for tearoom debate, it is also a key part of what some see as a one-sided Iran-Azerbaijan information war.

Qatar, playing all sides, is a nonstop mediator
In the past month, after Qatari diplomats brokered a landmark peace deal for Lebanon in talks here, this tiny emirate on the Gulf has enjoyed a brief moment of giddy celebrity. Editorialists praised the Qatari emir as a modern-day Metternich. Huge billboards went up on the road to the Beirut airport, proclaiming, "We all say: Thank you Qatar." An ice cream shop in central Beirut put out a sign offering a Doha Agreement Cone. But the Qataris did not linger over their diplomatic triumph. They were too busy trying to solve every other conflict in the Middle East.
Citizen diplomacy and cross-cultural pollination
Indonesians abroad, such as those who work in academia, as entrepreneurs or executives, indirectly represent Indonesia in the international arena, regardless of the negative label they are given -- "brain drain". This term is degrading and baseless, for only those who have never experienced the hardship of living away from one's homeland would have said it out loud...The opposite concept is "brain gain", which is a notion that acknowledges the dynamic exchanges of human capital across borders.
