A Hectic Week For Turkey
On Iran in Turkish-American relations, there is more convergence than divergence between Ankara and Washington. Washington seems content with Turkey's effort to talk some sense to Iranians. Georgian Journalists Meet Russian President
Georgian media representatives planned their trip in Moscow in response to an aborted roundtable in Georgia involving Russian journalists. Two Russian journalists were denied entry into Georgia on September 9. The two then announced that although they were insulted by Tbilisi’s “hostile attitude” they would invite Georgian journalists to Moscow in an attempt to restore dialogue.
Taiwan’s Détente Gamble
To defend Taiwan, military means is one of the means we are going to use, and it may not be the most important means. We also depend very much on the soft power of Taiwan to engage the Chinese mainland. For Mr. Ma, "soft power" has meant direct flights between Beijing and Taipei, direct postal links and cargo shipments, and making it easier for mainland tourists to come visit.
British Council Launches International Conference
Over one hundred participants, representing the vocational industry from the Arab World and the UK, will take part in a conference organised by The British Council on "Quality in Skills Education and Workforce Development" in Amman. This initiative is part of the Skills for Employability programme developed by the British Council which addresses the demand for skills in a global economy so that national educational and training systems are better able to respond to labour market demands and learner needs.
