Embracing global issues for 25 years
The Foreign Relations Council and the Council for International Visitors celebrated their 25th anniversaries this year, marking a quarter century of bringing global issues to Iowa City and giving local citizens a voice in international affairs.
Citizen Diplomacy
Lots of catching up to do on news items about U.S.-Cuba relations, but none of these items have to do with government officials sitting across the table from each other.
Just how Soft is NASA’s Soft Power Going to be?
While there are lots of serious reasons to object to the Obama Administration’s opening up an expanded relationship between NASA and the Chinese National Space Administration (CNSA) it is probably too late to stop the process.
Just how soft is NASA’s soft power going to be?
While there are lots of serious reasons to object to the Obama Administration’s opening up an expanded relationship between NASA and the Chinese National Space Administration (CNSA) it is probably too late to stop the process. Minaret Ban Challenges Tolerant Swiss Image

The EU has filled the post-Lisbon positions that could eventually help transform it into a true global power in the strict sense of the term. But it still lacks a long-term vision of what it hopes to accomplish in order to drive that transformation.
Iran: Time to Leave the NPT
Indications are that Tehran did not believe that in the international arena, its biggest foe would be injustice. When former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton was busy engineering completely illegal sanctions against Iran, it was with the goal of testing Tehran's patience in the hope of having them exit the NNPT so that he could muster up support for yet another war against an Islamic country in the Middle East. But Iran remained steadfast and in sharp contrast to the United States, it continued to respect international laws in the firm belief that justice would prevail.
