White House 2.0: Spreading its Message
The use of these Web 2.0 technologies - rich internet applications that encourage user collaboration, interaction and contribution - are being carried over to the Obama administration, in a number of areas. The monumental case in point for the use of Web 2.0 as part of public diplomacy was in connection with Obama's groundbreaking speech to the Muslim world in Cairo on 4 June.

The evaluation of Government 2.0 initiatives using a network analysis approach, has demonstrated the importance of understanding the type of the network which is being engaged through social media. The value of consciously considering whether the initiative will be centralised around Government or dispersed throughout society should not be overlooked.

Senior Politicians Join Calls for a ‘Citizen’s State’
he National Human Development Report, entitled "Toward a Citizen's State," was unveiled in downtown Beirut with speeches from contributing authors and Lebanese MPs. A collaboration between the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Council for Development and Reconstruction, the report addresses the concept of citizenship in Lebanon as well as making a number of recommendations regarding the state of Lebanese confessionalism, socio-economic citizenship rights, poverty and education.
Sweden ‘Ready’ to Drive Global Climate Talks[
Andreas Carlgren, Sweden's environment minister, said he is gearing up for the EU's push towards an ambitious international climate treaty in Copenhagen in December, as his country takes over the bloc's rotating presidency from the Czech Republic today (1 July). "As the country holding the presidency, Sweden will press for other industrialised countries and fast-growing economies to do their part," Carlgren stated.

Liberal-Era Diplomatic Language Killed Off
Key phrases like "good governance" and "public diplomacy" are being discreetly purged from Canadian foreign policy. It was once considered a hallmark achievement of modern Canadian foreign policy, but few breathe the words "human security" in Stephen Harper's Ottawa. And this is no accident. Since taking power three years ago, Conservative political staffers have worked to purge the language of the previous Liberal government's much lauded "human security" policies from the DFAIT lexicon.
Re-Packaged AFRICOM Still Not Good for Motherland
Increased attention on the White House Africa policy came ahead of President Barrack Obama's first trip to the continent as head of state, initially to Egypt in June and then Ghana in July. Africa policy has been a source of concern of analysts since the first days of Obama's administration mostly over the U.S. African Command (AFRICOM), an initiative started by former President George W. Bush, the U.S. Department of Defense and led by four-star General William “Kip” Ward.
