A Single Step: Journeys of Women Leaders
Inspired by the pivotal U.N. Conference on women in Beijing, the documentary, A Single Step, explores women's leadership. Narrated by Academy Award winning actress Sally Field, the film tells the story of five women: an educator, an environmentalist, a media advocate, a social entrepreneur, and a public health innovator. These visionary women share the impulse to turn bold ideas into bold action, and through their work motivate other women to participate in human rights, health, politics, climate change, civil society, the economy, and global leadership.
Join us for a film screening and panel discussion of Voice of America's documentary with Senior Executive Producer Beth Mendelson, Peggy Liu, an environmental advocate and chairperson of the Joint US-China Collaboration on Clean Energy (JUCCCE), Elizabeth Kilpatrick, Vice President of Development, Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, and Michael Renov, Professor and Vice Dean of Academic Affairs at USC School of Cinematic Arts (moderator). Special introductory comments by Geoffrey Cowan, former director of Voice of America (1994-1996) and current director of USC Annenberg Center for Communication Leadership and Policy and president of the Annenberg Sunnylands Trust.
Come and celebrate the extraordinary work of these remarkable women profiled in the documentary. The film is a Voice of America production in association with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union.
