The Paralympic Movement and Building an Inclusive Legacy for LA28
RSVP to Attend In Person
On Monday, October 12, from noon to 1:30 p.m. PT at the auditorium in USC’s John McKay Center, Hellenic Paralympic Committee President and Paralympic Gold Medalist Georgios Kapellakis will join the USC community for a conversation on the Paralympic Games, the advancement of accessible and inclusive sport, and the opportunities surrounding the legacy of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Drawing on his experience both as an elite athlete and as a leader in the Paralympic movement, Kapellakis will discuss the role of sport in expanding access, challenging perceptions of disability and promoting inclusion. Following his remarks, Clayton Frech, founder of Angel City Sports and father of two-time Paralympic gold medalist Ezra Frech, will moderate a panel featuring Kapellakis; Robert Tanaka, a USC alumnus and Team USA Paralympian who competed in judo at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games; and Damon Whittaker, a para archer and adaptive sports athlete with Angel City Sports. The conversation will look ahead to Los Angeles 2028 and consider how host cities, universities and community partners can help ensure that the impact of the Games extends beyond competition to create a lasting legacy of accessibility and participation.
The event is co-hosted by the USC Center on Public Diplomacy and the Consulate General of Greece in Los Angeles, in partnership with USC Athletics. It is part of the Olympic Ideals Series, an ongoing collaboration between CPD and the Consulate General of Greece exploring the values, diplomacy and cultural connections surrounding the Olympic and Paralympic movements as Los Angeles prepares to welcome the world in 2028.
