STAY IN THE KNOW

Using Audio for Public Diplomacy

This workshop will give participants an overview of the art of audio storytelling that can be leveraged for public diplomacy purposes. Participants will get an overview of audio techniques used in radio and podcasting and get hands-on practical skills for the production of audio content. In addition, we have added an additional module in how you bundle your audio work with other platforms.

The workshop comprises three modules:

  • Audio Storytelling
  • Podcasting Basics
  • Bundling Audio on Visual Platforms

Modules

Audio Storytelling

Participants will learn why audio can be a moving and powerful medium to tell stories. Participants will also be introduced to the conceptualization of audio content, as well as interviewing, writing and voice delivery techniques.

Podcasting Basics

This workshop explores the exploding world of podcasting and how it might be used as part of the public diplomacy toolkit. Participants will learn how podcasting differs from terrestrial radio, what’s involved in producing a podcast and some of the tools used in podcast production.

Bundling Audio on Visual Platforms

In order to promote and disseminate a podcast (or any of your digital work) you need to think in a multi-platform production mode. In this module, participants will learn collecting skills, maps, infographics, and other materials that will allow you to promote your work on platforms where audio may not be the primary medium.
