New PSA by Salvation Army Uses #TheDress to Raise Awareness of Domestic Abuse

Just one week after #DressGate blew up the internet, the Salvation Army repurposed #TheDress to raise awareness about domestic abuse. The Salvation Army's new PSA features the disputed dress with the slogan "Why is it so hard to see black and blue?" The ad campaign launched March 6, 2015 in South Africa and depicts a battered young woman wearing the infamous dress in white and gold. A caption adds: "The only illusion is if you think it was her choice. One in six women are victims of abuse. Stop abuse against women." The PSA is an innovative use of marketing, and demonstrates how a trivial internet meme can facilitate a timely and necessary discussion about domestic abuse.
