CPD Research Fellow pens newest CPD Perspectives

CPD Research Fellow 2011-13, Sarah Ellen Graham, pens the latest paper for the CPD Perspectives on Public Diplomacy series. Her research focuses on the bilateral relationship between the United States and India and culminates in her paper "Engaging India: Public Diplomacy and Indo-American Relations to 1957".

The tenth paper published in 2012 takes a deeper look into U.S. public diplomacy towards India during the pre-and post-independence periods. Graham puts into context a complex relationship between the United States and India assessing the public diplomacy strategies prior to as well as post-Cold War. Her findings demonstrate why many of the U.S. public diplomacy strategies caused significant harm to the bilateral relationship. She eloquently describes why domestic policies such as segregation, even in the pre-Internet era, cannot be masked by the best public diplomacy strategy. Her research findings also provide significant insights and recommendations for U.S. public diplomacy towards India today.

This paper serves as the completion of Sarah Graham's CPD Research Fellowship and can be read here.

CPD Perspectives is a periodic publication from the USC Center on Public Diplomacy, and highlights scholarship intended to stimulate critical thinking about the study and practice of public diplomacy.
