NEW: PDiN Monitor, March Issue

The March issue of PDiN Monitor focuses on The Role of Film in Public Diplomacy. A variety of notable events have sparked discussion around the role of film in public diplomacy, especially with the increasingly international make up of the Academy Awards.

In this issue's PD Snapshot, PDiN Monitor Associate Editor Kia Hays analyzes the public diplomacy news trends from February 16 to March 15, which discusses Film in Public Diplomacy News. This month's PD Spotlight Experts Answer article asked a variety of sources the question,"Film plays a vital role in the formation of public opinion and can be a vehicle for soft power for various nations. Considering film's global importance, what responsibility do you think the film industry has as a contributor to cultural diplomacy?" Once again, we invite our readers to add their perspectives in the comment box of this section.

PDiN Highlights continues to focus on the role of film in public diplomacy. In KONY 2012: Public Diplomacy's Perfect Storm, CPD's Public Diplomat in Residence, Atim Eneida George, explores the different aspects of the Invisible Children viral video campaign, including the social media, NGO activism, and traditional public diplomacy, that has made the campaign a trending topic in public diplomacy and the subject of both negative and positive media attention. Master of Public Diplomacy candidate Leila Nazarian discusses how the Iranian film A Separation's Oscar win for Foreign Film created an outlet of cultural information for the Iranian people during a time of high tension between Iran and the West in A Separation as a Tool of Iranian Cultural Diplomacy.
