As chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Kerry held a joint press conference with House Foreign Relations Chairman Howard L. Berman and Pakistani Foreign Minister Qureshi to release a "joint explanatory statement."

A local health care executive is Germany-bound after being tapped by the U.S. State Department for a public diplomacy program. Harry G. Harris, president of Fresno-based HealthCare California, departs for Germany Oct. 17 for a one-week program to discuss the current American health care reform issue.
Turkey-EU Relations
As of today, Turkey has accomplished much in terms of introducing the necessary reforms and enacting the crucial legislation towards harmonizing with the EU acquis. But, there is still much to be done. As Turkey sees integration with the EU as a strategic and structural preference, the dynamism to that end must be preserved. I am confident that Turkey’s real and justified Western vocation, as well as its consistent desire and efforts toward full accession will be determining in the years to come.
A Soft Power Opportunity for Iran
In the case of Yemen, Iran could earn points with the Saudis by helping to avert a refugee crisis on the Saudi border. And by pacifying the north, Tehran will free Yemen's military to focus its attention on Al Qaeda operatives in the south, earning Iran more points in Sana -- and in Washington.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told an audience of Moscow students on Wednesday that one of her favourite books was "The Brothers Karamazov" by classic Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky. "I have been influenced by so many books, but I will pick one that is particularly appropriate for this occasion: 'The Brothers Karamazov,'" she said when asked to name her favourite book.
