China Designates Special ‘Protest Zones’

For those who want to demonstrate but do not want to risk arrest and deportation, there is another, perfectly legal way to get heard at the Olympics - at three "designated protest zones" around the capital city. They are, however, a far cry from Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park. For one, they are tucked away in hard-to reach suburbs, seven miles from the main Olympic stadium. And for another, the rules on exactly who can demonstrate, and what they can demonstrate about, are as strict and complex as any in China's Byzantine bureaucracy.

Make Diplomacy, Not War

In short, the United States is hugely overinvesting in military tools and underinvesting in diplomatic tools. The result is a lopsided foreign policy that antagonizes the rest of the world and is ineffective in tackling many modern problems. After all, you can’t bomb global warming.
