It’s Complicated: America’s Relations with Pakistan

A retired career diplomat, Munter served as America’s ambassador to Pakistan from October 2010 until July 2012, leading a 2,500-employee embassy while guiding U.S.-Pakistan relations through a period of severe crisis, including the capture of Osama bin Laden and the latest phase of the Afghan war.

Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to Pakistan, Munter served in several capacities in Baghdad, Iraq, overseeing U.S. civilian and military cooperation in planning the drawdown of U.S. troops and establishing the first provincial reconstruction team in Iraq in the city of Mosul. His past positions include U.S. Ambassador to Serbia, and deputy chief of mission at the U.S. embassies in the Czech Republic and Poland, among other posts. Read more . . .
