Marteau Emerson Named as New CPD Advisory Board Chair

The USC Center on Public Diplomacy is delighted to announce that Kimberly Marteau Emerson will serve as the new chair of its Advisory Board. Emerson will succeed Ambassador William H. Luers who served as the board's founding chair since 2004.

"Kimberly has been an active member of the CPD Advisory Board since 2006 and is dedicated to the expansion of the Center's visibility and prominence on the west coast and elsewhere. We are deeply grateful for Bill Luers's extraordinary stewardship of the board and look forward to his continued involvement in the years ahead," said CPD Director, Philip Seib. Marteau Emerson served in the Clinton Administration as Director of Public Liaison for the U.S. Information Agency (USIA), where she was the domestic spokesperson, and traveled as the senior USIA political liaison on President Clinton’s overseas trips to the Far East, Europe, Russia and the former Soviet Union. She has since lent her substantial expertise and talents to the work of the National Democratic Institute, Pacific Council on International Policy, Operation USA, United Friends of the Children, the Getty House Foundation, and Human Rights Watch for which she serves as co-chair of its southern California committee. Her full bio can be found here.

"With her extensive network of contacts in politics, human rights, music, entertainment and youth organizations, her genuine enthusiasm for CPD's work and her keen sense of the importance of public diplomacy, Kimberly will most certainly be an asset to the Center as Board Chair in the next phase of its growth," said Ambassador Luers, who will remain on the CPD Advisory Board.
